Every now and then, an artist
comes along whose vocal abilities belie their age. Well, don’t kid yourself
about Pop music’s beautiful new Wonder Girl... having turned 20 years old,
Jacynthe (pronounced Jah-saint) has a lifetime of singing experience behind
her. Born and raised in Quebec, she began singing at three, and wrote
her first song at the tender age of seven!
Most people though, have only lately discovered
this young sensation, thanks to the huge success of the Top40 singles “Give
It Up”, being #1 three weeks in a row in Quebec and peaking at #29 in Canada,
“This Is The Night“, and “One More Time” the latter having also enjoyed
heavy video rotation. It was also re-recorded in French, as “Encore
Une Fois“ for the Quebec market. Her first invasion on the dance music
scene was with the hit “Try My Love”, recorded and released when she was
just sixteen. Now, four years and three chart-topping singles later
comes the album I GOT WHAT IT TAKES, which sold over 25,000 units in Canada
and 15,000 units of her newly released French album Entends-tu Mon Coeur,
October 26, 1999.
Jacynthe is by no means an overnight success.
She has been working hard and fast to gain the popularity and respect she
so treasures today. She spent her youth singing in choirs, including three
years as the soloist in a gospel choir, and is an avid opera lover who
is currently studying The Bel-canto, a highly respected opera technique.
For over two years, Jacynthe has also sung the national anthems at all
‘Montreal Impact’ soccer games including one for the NBA Vancouver Grizzlies.
Her music has been included on several major compilation releases licensed
worldwide.
The album I GOT WHAT IT TAKES features Jacynthe’s
multi-lingual abilities, where she sings two songs - one in French and
one in Italian. A Pop/Dance interpretation of the track “Piu Bella Cosa”
(originally recorded by Italian superstar Eros Ramazotti), is outstanding,
as is the current single’s re-make of KC and The Sunshine Band’s “Give
It Up”. Six original songs are also included, composed and produced by
Michael A. and Paul Galati, (her solid writing team), who offer Jacynthe
commercially flavored grooves. The album was mastered at the prestigious
Absolute Audio Studios in New York (Madonna, Robyn, ‘N’-Sync, Ace Of Base,
La Bouche, and Toni Braxton).
“Give It Up” climbed the Contemporary Hit
Radio chart to #29 in just 8 weeks, which has continued to bring Jacynthe
notoriety within her own country.
The attention the press has given Jacynthe
is noteworthy, having done performances and/or guest appearances on national
TV shows Dini Petty, Gabereau, Canada AM, Global Entertainment Desk, YTV,
Rogers Cable (Ontario only) and the Electric Circus as well as a full page
interview in the Toronto Star and Vancouver Sun, not to mention other print
media such as the music industry’s RPM (front page cover story) and
The Record, and teen magazines such as Teen Tribute. Fashion shoots also
abound for such noted magazines as Adorable (French), The Bay Magazine
and Image.
To top all this success off, this year Jacynthe
was nominated for a JUNO Award (Best Dance Recording) and a CMA Award (Best
New Dance/R&B Artist). A trip back from the MIDEM (Music Conference)
held in Cannes, France, proved to be very successful, where by JACYNTHE
has been licensed in Japan.
In fact, Jacynthe has been spending a lot
of time in Japan, (four trips in five months) where she recently signed
a lucrative deal with the notable multi-international record label AVEX,
whose roster includes the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears to keep label-mate
Jacynthe company.
Her Japan release has already sold over 50,000
albums in just 8 weeks! A sure tribute to Artist talent and record label
support.
And speaking of the rest of the world, Jacynthe
is about to ink a deal with the large European record label Edel for the
world, where by Jacynthe's next album will be produced in Sweden by the
Backstreet Boys production team, with new tracks written by Desmond Child
("Livin' La Vida Loca" - Ricky Martin, Livin' On A Prayer" - Bon Jovi,
"I Was Made For Lovin' You" - KISS).
It is success such as this that has uged magazines
such as Canada’s Teen Tribute to run a story on Jacynthe with a headline
that reads “Move Over Britney” (Spears).
Back in Canada, Jacynthe is now sponsored
by Le Chateau for clotheswear and Aldo for shoes. You can definitely look
for advertising in Canada displaying Jacynthe wearing these companies line
of products.
Currently, Jacynthe is at Top40 radio with
a new single, entitled “I’ll Be”, a sweet mid-tempo ballad-with-a-beat
Pop. And the “I’ll Be” video is, according to the critics, Jacynthe’s best
visual to date, as can be seen by it’s instant add onto Much Music and
a first-time ever heavy rotation onto Musique Plus.
And speaking of Quebec, where the Artist is
a true Pop Star, Jacynthe recently completed a showcase to launch her new
album with label partner BMG Music Canada. Together with a live band, full
string section and choir, Jacynthe once again showed her industry and fans
that following your heart and your dreams does have a road to success.
And while Canada continues to embrace Jacynthe,
either through her summer stage show at HOT RUSH at Canada’s Wonderland
where she shared the stage with such notables as 3 Deep, Destiney’s Child
and Prozak, or her performance at Cupid’s Ball in Vancouver (where she
shared the stage with Sky and Love Inc.) or simply enjoying her songs on
the radio, she is back in the recording studio working on a new English
album, entitled Listen To My Heart, due out in early 2,000.
If talent, personality, and beauty are the
components by which success is measured, then there’s no question - Jacynthe’s
got what it takes! The album I Got What It Takes, including the bonus track
“I’ll Be” is in stores now, distributed through BMG Music Canada.
